Ukrainian Cinema Takes Center Stage at 83rd Venice Film Festival

A dedicated Ukrainian Day was held on September 6 as part of the 83rd Venice International Film Festival, bringing Ukrainian filmmakers and producers to the festival’s professional programme, Venice Production Bridge.

The central event was a panel discussion, “From Dialogue to Co-production,” focused on opportunities for international collaboration with Ukrainian production companies. Venice Production Bridge head Pascal Diot opened the event, expressing continued support for Ukrainian filmmakers and highlighting the quality and diversity of Ukrainian projects.

Ukrainian producers Olga Matat and Diana Nazaruk shared practical experience of international co-production, emphasizing that strong scripts, creative approaches and professional teams are increasingly central to successful partnerships.

Six Ukrainian projects were presented to international industry professionals: Tangled by Ivan Orlenko, Antonivka by Kateryna Gornostai, GIA by Khrystyna Tynkevych, Something Strange Happened to Me by Dmytro Sukholytkyi-Sobchuk, Air Raid Over by Khrystyna Tynkevych, and Fencer: The Main Bout by Denys Tarasov.

The 83rd Venice Film Festival runs from September 2–12, 2026.
