Lying in a temperate continental climate zone, Ukraine has mean January temperatures of about 26° F (–3° C) in the southwest and 18° F (–8° C) in the northeast.

The mean July temperatures are about 73° F (23° C) in the southwest and 66° F (19° C) in the northeast.

The southern shores of the Crimea, between the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov, have a warm Mediterranean-type climate. Odessa and Yalta are both well known as Black Sea resort areas.
