For the first time in the competition for public funds a new procedure for the domestic filmmakers had been introduced – projects pitching. After its results there will be 70 million UAH of budget funds shared between projects.
Odessa International Film Festival (OIFF) received an award from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) – one of the most prestigious international association of journalists, existing for almost 70 years and managing Golden Globe award.
The competition jury for short films at the Cannes Film Festival, headed by Michel Gondry has awarded its prize to Maryna Vroda for the short film ‘Cross’, which will also be shown in the short program Kinotavr, held in Sochi, from 4 to 11 June.
On May, 14th Minister of Culture of Ukraine, Mikhail Kulinyak and Minister of Culture of France, Frederic Mitterand signed in Cannes an agreement between the governments of both countries on co-production of films.

The Ukrainian short film by Maryna Vroda was selected for the competition program of the 64-th Cannes Film Festival. It is a French-Ukrainian co-production titled ‘Cross’.
Verhovna Rada (Ukrainian Parliament) is going to conduct the hearings regarding problems of Ukrainian filmmaking. The hearings are scheduled for 6 of April 2011.
Ukraine will present the first domestic trailer for the movie in a 3D format – “Love and a dot” at the Berlin Film Festival, which will start on February 10-th. There are 3 Ukrainian feature films this year on Berlinale, including one in the main competition, and 6 short films.
Starting on February, 4 till February 11, 2011 in Kyiv cinema “Kyiv” there will take place a week of the restored movies by Oleksandr Dovzhenko, famous Ukrainian director . The program includes all nine films by Dovzhenko: “Berry of love”, “Courier’s bag”, “Zvenigora”, “Earth”, “Arsenal”, “Ivan”, “Aerograd”, “Schors”, “Michurin” reported by organizers.
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dismissed the national film producers from paying land tax. The ban on land tax will be effective until January 1, 2016. The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting on Wednesday, January 26.
