The premier of Ukrainian film “Gogol. The Lost Paradise” (directed by R. Plakhov-Modestov, produced by National Cinemateque of Ukraine) took place as a part of “Gogol week in UNESCO timed to two hundred writer’s anniversary in Paris, in April 1, 2009.
During the week films screened by Gogol’s novels had been shown in Salle des Pas Perdus art-center. In addition “The Midsummer Night” (dir. Illenko, 1968) and “The Lost Diploma” (dir. Ivchenko, 1972) were shown within the bounds of this film festival.
“The Lost Paradise” is a movie about Gogol’s life. Sergiy Jakutovych (his books’ illustrator) and other authors tryed to present the writer’s biography through his works. The film was also an attempt to find the motives of Gogol’s works in his childhood.
Sergiy Jakutovych and the representatives of UNESCO General Directorate and Ukrainian official delegates made a speech before the premier of film.
