Darren Aronofsky Presented “The Wrestler” In Kyiv

Darren Aronofsky a famous American film producer visited Ukraine this weekend. He presented his new film “Wrestler” and gave the press conference in March 29, 2009 in Ultramarine cinema, Kyiv.

Aronofsky is known as a director of “Pi”, “Requiem for a Dream” and “The Fountain”. The last his film has already won the Golden Lion Award at its premiere at the Venice Film Festival.

“The Wrestler” also won all three categories it was nominated for at the Independent Spirit Awards. It was nominated for three Golden Globe Awards in 2008, including the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor, which was won by Mickey Rourke and the award for Best Original Song composed by Bruce Springsteen. “The Wrestler” was also nominated for two Academy Awards: Best Actor for Mickey Rourke and Best Supporting Actress for Marisa Tomei.

“The Wrestler” is a drama about an aging professional wrestler, decades past his prime, who now barely gets by working small wrestling shows in VFW halls and as a part-time grocery store employee. As he faces health problems that may end his wrestling career for good he attempts to come to terms with his life outside the ring: by working full time at the grocery store, trying to reconcile with the daughter he abandoned in childhood and forming a closer bond with a stripper he has romantic feelings for. He struggles with his new life and an offer of a high-profile rematch with his 1980s arch-nemesis, The Ayatollah, which may be his ticket back to stardom.
