The First Ukrainian Feature 3D Animation In Production

A well known animation director David Cherkassky confirmed the beginning of production of his new feature animation “Who’s Afraid of Uncle Babay”. David Cherkassky is known for his works like “Treasure Island”, “Dr. Aibolyt” and “Adventures of Captain Vrungel”.

David Cherkassky is also planning a sequel for his ”Adventures of Captain Vrungel” in 3D.

“3D is a breakthrough. I have always adhered to the opinion that all the technical achievements are good. They simplify the process, allowing you to work faster. Computer is just a substitute for the hands. It doesn’t replace your brains to make some interesting ideas,” – said Cherkassky.

3rd Competition Announced By The State Film Agency of Ukraine

The Agency starts to form the funds for 2012-2013 support program for domestic filmmaking. Projects submissions will be accepted till April 15, 2012.

This third competition will have following subdivisions: fiction films, children films, debut films, non-fiction films, animation films and there will be also two specialized groups:
- full-length feature films dedicated to the 200th anniversary of Taras Shevchenko
- non-fiction movies dedicated to the 70-th anniversary of Koryukivka tragedy

Docudays.UA starts in Kyiv

International Documentary Film Festival on Human Rights Docudays UA starts on March 29 and will continue till March 29. Films compete in three categories – DOCU / LIFE, DOCU / RIGHT, DOCU / BRIEF. Short Film Competition will be held for the first time – for films under 45 minutes of running time. Each competition has its prize fund.

Since 2009 the students of Kyiv high schools are involved to figure out the greatest films. They fill out anonymous questionaries. Third year in a row the Andrew Matrosov prize competition is held. He used to be a producer and closest friend of the festival. The prize goes to the best film selected by the audience.

Molodist IFF Announces Jameson Shoot’n’Play Short Film Competition

Competition is open for everyone. The works will be evaluated by an international jury. Competition will be finalized on March, 16. The project offers young people to create their own short films in just 8 days. Author of the best, according to the international jury, will receive the film Grand Prix of the project: a visit to the Galway Film Festival (Galway, Ireland) from 10th till 15th of July, 2012.

Regulations for participation in the Jameson Shoot’n'PLAY:

- Up to 30 people or groups of artists who sign up first on March, 7 are eligible. Registration starts at 12:00.

- 8 days is available for filming. A film lenghts is up to 10 minutes. Calendar period for shooting is from 7 till 15th of March. Work must be submitted before 14:00 on 15th of March.

The First Ukrainian 3D Horror Movie “Synevir”

“Synevir” is a 100% Ukrainian production. The actors and investments involved are coming from Ukraine. Some national myths and legends could be found in its plot.

The story location is a Trans-Carpathian lake Synevir. The principal character – a monster of local folklore. The producer of this movie is Volodymyr Horunzhy. The directors are Alexander and Stanislav – Aleshechkiny brothers.

The film budget is less than $1 million. “Synevir” should have 3 to 5 millions USD in the box office to pay off its production.

The film is appealing to young audiences, it has been created under laws of a Hollywood genre cinema.

The film in 3D is scheduled for release for the end of May or the beginning of June, 2012.

Horunzhy has written music more than to 40 Hollywood films, including such, as ‘The Langoliers’ by Stephen King and also to a known TV series ‘Santa Barbara’.
