Ukraine Bans Russian Films Made In Past Year

Ukrainian MPs vote to prohibit Russian movies made since start of 2014 which promote the Russian armed forces and security services.

UPDATED: The Ukrainian parliament February 5 voted to ban screenings of Russian army and police films made after 1 January 2014.

The new law will prohibit the broadcast of ‘films made by Russian individuals and entitles which promote the Russian armed forces and security services.’

The ban applies to all films released after 1 January 2014.

Ukraine has introduced restrictions and bans on a number of Russian TV channels and Russian programming over the past year amid accusations of a concerted anti-Ukraine information campaign being waged throughout the state-controlled Russian media. Bans have been imposed on individual Russian TV channels and on Russian programmes which profile the Russian army or police.
