Now Filming In Ukraine

International filming  is going on now in the cities Yalta, Feodosia, Kharkiv, Odessa, Alushta, Dnepropetrovsk and Lviv, about a dozen of film groups from Ukraine and Russia are working.

In Yalta Bakhtiar Khudoinazarov (“Tanker”, “Tango”) is working on a spy series ” Hetaeras of Major Sokolov “(the training of Soviet spies in the 30s), so the Yalta quay decorated with red flags, posters of those years, and cars “Volga”.


In Feodosia the “March-2” is being filmed – a sequel to the 2003 film. This is a story of the capture by Chechen terrorists of a tourist resort in Krasnodar region. Director – Vladimir Jankovsky, who is the nephew of prominent Russian actor Oleg Jankovsky. There are a lot of tricks, fire and shooting in the film. The release is scheduled for 2013.

In Kharkiv, director Oles Sanin (film “Mamaj”) makes a film called “Guide” – based on the real story when over hundred of kobzars (kobza players) were near Kharkov in the 30’s. The role of a foreign boy, who became a guide for a blind kobzar in the film, having witnessed the execution, plays an American actor. Release year – 2013.

In Alushta director Oksana Bayrak is filming “Later regret”. The plot of the series revolves around two families, whose daughter and son started with meetings and finished with … pregnancy, and they are just 16 years old. Planned year of release- 2013.

In Dnepropetrovsk a short film “The Red Necklace” – about the Holodomor (famine in Ukraine) is being filmed. According to screenwriter Tatiana Kondrashevska, the story is based on the testimonials of a woman who was 7 years old in the time of Holodomor in 1932.

For the film by Nikita Mikhalkov “Sunstroke” (from a story by Ivan Bunin) in Odessa near the famous Potyomkin Stairs a special set decoration is has been built.

Another director, Edward Parry, just finished shooting the film in Odessa “Odessa Mama”. The action takes place in 1979, hence all the landscapes of the Soviet era: yellow phone boxes, milk booths and building of central train station, decorated with red flags.

In Lviv the shooting of a film about the Italian artist and scientist Leonardo da Vinci are recently finished. He was played by the actor the Moscow Drama and Comedy Theatre Kirill Maikut, and Lviv played the Florence – native city of the artist. The filmmakers have chosen Lviv because of the abundance of old pavement and buildings. Year of release – 2013.
