Maryna Vroda Takes Golden Palm for ‘Cross’ !

The competition jury for short films at the Cannes Film Festival, headed by Michel Gondry has awarded its prize to Maryna Vroda for the short film ‘Cross’, which will also be shown in the short program Kinotavr, held in Sochi, from 4 to 11 June.

Maryna Vroda was previously assistant director for Sergei Loznica, who last year represented the film “You, My Joy” in Cannes. 15 min film “Cross” is all about recollections from the school time.

“Cross” is a co-production project between Ukraine and France. The shooting took place in September last year for less than a week. It employed only non-professional actors. The budget was limited by 3,5 thousand Euros. The director herself financed half of the amount.

Maryna Vroda is 29. She graduated from National University of Karpenko-Kary, Department of Film, specialization “Directing film”. Her thesis – short film “Oath” shown at Film Festival “Molodist”.

Ukraine was awarded in Cannes before. The first Ukrainian who won the Palme d’Or was Igor Strembitsky. In 2005 he received this award for his short film “Wayfarers”.
