A Week of Dovzhenko’s Films

Starting on February, 4 till February 11, 2011 in Kyiv cinema “Kyiv” there will take place a week of the restored movies by Oleksandr Dovzhenko, famous Ukrainian director .

The program includes all nine films by Dovzhenko: “Berry of love”, “Courier’s bag”, “Zvenigora”, “Earth”, “Arsenal”, “Ivan”, “Aerograd”, “Schors”, “Michurin” reported by organizers.

For the first time Ukrainian audiences will see the famous films of Dovzhenko restorated on the state order of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Ukraine. Restoration was made by the company IBS.

In the frame of the project there also will be screened the documentary film by Mykhailo Donets “Oleksandr Dovzhenko. Thinking after life”.

“Dovzhenko is one of the ten best world-class directors of all time. He was an acknowledged master of the Ukrainian cinema”, said the organizers of the Week of Alexander Dovzhenko Movies.

Oleksandr Dovzhenko is Soviet and Ukrainian film director, writer, screenwriter, National Artist of Russia (1950), Lenin Prize (1959, posthumously) and two Stalin Prizes (1941, 1949) winner.

Dovzhenko did not have time to implement many of his scripts. His wife, director Yulia Solntseva, made several films on his screenplays “Poem of the Sea”, “A Tale of fiery years” and “Enchanted Desna” after his death.
