editor September 3rd, 2010
The Deafness from The Assholes. Arabesque film almanac comes through to the final of the shorts competition program at the Vth Martha’s Vineyard International Film Festival. This is the first Ukrainian film, which took place in a program of The Film Forum.
This festival is considered to be one of the top 25 film festivals of the world under the version of the authoritative MovieMaker Magazin. The Festival’s program only consist of those films that have already been presented at the major film festivals of the world – Sundance, Berlin, Cannes, Toronto, Venice – etc.
This year The Martha’s Vineyard International Film Festival will be held in September, 9-12.
Slaboshpitsky’s short film, shot with the participation of deaf actors, has already represented Ukraine at the Berlin Film Festival in February 2010.
The action of the film unfolds in a boarding school for deaf children. It was a long-time idea of the director to shoot a movie about deaf people, as it offers an opportunity to touch the stylistics of speechless movies, a modern version of silent movies.
This short is a part the non-profit art-house film Assholes. Arabesque. It is the series of short films narrating about ordinary people in different life situations. The main idea of the film is reflecting phenomena of social and cultural nihilism that has engulfed modern Ukrainian society.
The national premiere of the Assholes. Arabesque will take place in September, 23.
