A Film By Kira Muratova Awarded With “The Golden Vine”

“Melody For The Barrel Organ” by Kira Muratova won the main prize of the 18th open festival of CIS countries, Latvia, Baltia and Estonia. This edition of KinoShock Film Festival took place in Anapa on September 13-20.
This year’s main competition program of “Kinoshock” includes 11 works from various countries. The festival’s program features five contests: full-length movies, video and digital films (Cinema without a Film), feature TV films (TV-Shock), children’s movies (KidShock) and shorts (Short-Shock).

The festival in Anapa is one of the most representative and respected forums in the post-Soviet territory. The main objective of the festival is developing of further cooperation among filmmakers of CIS countries, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and to identify talented directors and provide them with professional support.

The recent film of Muratova had already been richly awarded at the Moscow International Film Festival this summer. In Ukraine the film would be presented at the end of October.

“Melody For The Barrel Organ” is a story about two orphans. After their mother’s death her children have no choice but to go and to find their fathers  in the big city. On their way they meet many people that are kind and wicked, rich and poor. But one thing stays the same as nobody really cares for them, because everybody’s got to deal with their own problems.
