Distribution Of “Bruno” Is Banned In Ukraine

The comedy “Bruno,” starring British comedian Sacha Baron Cohen, will not be shown in Ukrainian cinemas. The movie was scheduled to premiere on July 23, but the The Ukrainian Culture and Tourism Ministry decided to ban the distribution and demonstration of the film in the country.

The reason for the prohibition was that nine out of 14 experts of a commission of experts said the film contained “artistically unjustified exhibition of sexual organs and sexual relations, homosexual acts in a blatantly graphic form, obscene language, sadism, anti-social behavior which could damage the moral upbringing of our citizens”. Cohen’s previous film, “Borat”: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan, was also never shown in Ukraine.

“Bruno” is an American mockumentary comedy from British comedian Sacha Baron Cohen. It tells the story of a hapless television journalist from the Alpine city of Klagenfurt who takes his outrageous attitude and outfits to the United States in search of fame.

In the USA “Bruno” (the full title is “Bruno: Delicious Journeys Through America for the Purpose of Making Heterosexual Males Visibly Uncomfortable in the Presence of a Gay Foreigner in a Mesh T-Shirt”) was released with the “R” rating (viewers under the age of 17 must have a parent or other adult accompanying). And in some countries the film came out in the “edited” (censored) version. In Russia “Bruno” is still scheduled to premiere on July 23.
