The XV KROK Made A Stop In Kyiv

The KROK International Animated Films Festival: The Optional Stop took place in Kyiv this weekend. During three days cinephiles had the opportunity to see the best examples of the competitive program and retrospective show of famous masters such as Koji Yamamura and Michel Ocelot.

It is the world’s only floating festival of animation and one of the biggest events in post-Soviet space of animation art. Traditionally KROK is celebrated aboard a comfortable ship, cruising in Ukraine and Russia by turns. Finally Kyiv audience sees something like a report of the festival.

The last 15th KROK plied the route of St. Petersburg—Valaam—Mandrogi—Kiji—Gorici—Yaroslavl—Moscow. The Festival-2008 was devoted to the youth films. It was an international showcase of the best works of students from the world prominent film schools and directors-debutants. It is committed to facilitating exchange of creative experience of the representatives of different film schools, search of new ideas, styles, technologies, and ways of development of the world animation.

Participants from 33 countries submitted 129 films for the competition. The Grand Prix won The Belgium film «THE TRAVELLER» by Johan Pollefoort. Ukrainian students were also honored. Kateryna Chepik was awarded with diploma «For fresh and light touch» for debut «KATERINKA IMAGINES».
