Vadym Perelman Present His New Film In Kyiv

An American film director of Ukrainian origin Vadym Perelman is going to present his new film The Life Before Her Eyes where Uma Thurman stars in Kyiv. The premiere will take place in January 15, 2009 in the “Kinopanorama” cinema. The film is also a participant of the Art-House project “American Independent Cinema” that took place in the capital these days.

In 2003, commercial director Vadym Perelman’s first film House of Sand and Fog received a lot of critical raves and a number of awards including three Oscar nominations.

The Life Before Her Eyes is based on the novel of the same name by Laura Kasischke. It stars Evan Rachel Wood as Diana, a rebellious teen in a quiet religious suburb that’s rocked by a school shooting; 15 years later, the older Diana, played by Uma Thurman, is married. She looks satisfied with her life, her husbund and a little daughter, but is still haunted by the events from her past.

The film explores the reverberations stemming from the collision of past and future, reality and dream. Life can end in an instant-yet the echoes of possible futures been remain inescapable. Moving backwards and forwards in time, it combines the dramatic intensity of Sophie’s Choice with the eerie mystery of a ghost story like The Others. The Life Before Her Eyes is a gorgeously shot film that’s moving and thought-provoking in no small part due to the performances by Perelman’s two main actresses and relative newcomer Eva Amurri as Diana’s high school best friend.
